In the coming days commuters on Central Railway (CR) will not have to struggle to walk to one end of the platform looking for a foot-over bridge with an escalator. CR officials are all set to install 115 escalators in the entire zone. One hundred and six of these will be at suburban railway stations.
The decision was made following a Railway Board policy that directed zonal railways to “saturate” stations with escalators. The Railway Board then sanctioned a total of 400 escalators across all zones of Indian Railway.
CR was allotted the highest chunk of that, 115. “About 106 escalators will be put up across 36 stations on suburban railway while a few others will be put up at other stations,” an official explained. Read More
