The President of India has approved total central financial support of Rs34,422 crore for installation of solar pumps and grid-connected solar and other renewable power plants under the Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahaabhiyan (KUSUM) rural solar scheme.
Through KUSUM scheme, the government aims to add solar and other renewable capacity of 25.75 GW by 2022 by promoting installation of 10 GW worth of ‘decentralized ground mounted’, grid-connected renewable power plants and the deployment of 17.5 lakh (1.75 million) standalone solar-powered agriculture pumps. The plan includes the conversion to solar power of 10 lakh of grid-connected pumps.
The installation of renewable power plants and solarisation of agriculture pumps (of individual pump capacity up to 7.5 hp) will be done in pilot mode till December 31, 2019. Read More
