Five persons were killed and at least 36 persons injured after a major portion of a foot over bridge collapsed in south Mumbai on Thursday evening. All the injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals. The bridge connected the area near the Times of India building with the iconic CST station.
The incident took place around 7.30 pm when a major portion of the bridge caved in. Some motorists who were passing beneath the bridge when it came down, were among those injured, according to officials. A team of NDRF and a dog squad are present at the spot. The casualty toll is likely to rise.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 Lakh each to the families of those who died in the incident and compensation of Rs 50,000 each to the injured. Read More
