Accepting the magisterial probe report into the October 19 Amritsar train tragedy, chief minister Amarinder Singh on Thursday ordered strict action against organizers of the Dussehra function. He also ordered action against the gateman of the railway crossing at Jada Phatak and others responsible for the accident. The probe has also found local police and municipal authorities blameworthy for not enforcing the law.
The function was organized near railway track by Congress councillor Vijay Madan’s son Saurabh Madan alias ‘Meethu’. The probe conducted by Jalandhar divisional commissioner B Purushartha had found them accountable for various acts of omissions and commissions resulting into 61 deaths in the train tragedy.
The divisional commissioner had given clean chit to cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu since he was not present in Amritsar on the day of tragedy. The report also said that Sidhu’s wife, Navjot Kaur, who was chief guest at the function, had no role in organizing the event. Read More
