The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was apprised of the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between India and Spain on India-Spain Cooperation in renewable energy.
The MoU, signed on 30th May, 2017 at Spain, will help in strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries with the exchange of expertise and networking of information.
Both sides aim to establish the basis for a cooperative institutional relationship to encourage and promote technical bilateral cooperation on new and renewable energy issues on the basis of mutual benefit equality and reciprocity. The MoU envisages to establish a Joint Working Committee to review, monitor and discuss matters relation to areas of cooperation.
It may be noted here that India and Spain shad signed seven agreements, including on cooperation in cyber security and renewable energy, following recent talks in Madrid between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Spanish counterpart Mariano Rajoy. It may also be noted here that it was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Spain in nearly 30 years since Rajiv Gandhi paid a trip in 1988. Modi and Rajoy last met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Turkey in November 2015.
Apart from RE and cyber security, three other MoUs were signed on cooperation in organ transplantation, technical cooperation in civil aviation, and between the Foreign Service Institute of India and the Diplomatic Academy of Spain.
Two agreements were also signed on transfer of sentenced persons and waiving of visas for diplomatic passport holders.
