Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday suggested the West Bengal government convert two of the state’s old power plants into super-critical base plants.

Total 1654 villages were electrified during April 2015 to 14th Aug 2015 and after taking initiative by Government of India for taking it on mission mode, 7,999 additional villages have been electrified from 15th August 2015 to 7th August, 2016.
As many as 327 villages have been electrified across the country during last week (from 1st to 7th August 2016) under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY).

Government of Himachal Pradesh, NTPC Ltd. & NHPC signed an MoU for setting up Hydro Engineering College in the State of Himachal Pradesh to promote technical education in the State here today.
The project will be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs.17,237.8 crore including Interest During Construction component of Rs.3,202.42 crore.
“We have brought solar revolution in a big way to India. In the last two years, there was highest ever renewable energy capacity expansion in wind and solar. In fact, solar energy capacity, which was 2,400 MW in 2014, has now crossed 7,000 MW,” the Coal, Power and Renewable Energy Minister said during his visit to Chennai.

The project will not only ensure uninterrupted supply of power in Gurgaon city but will also put an end to the diesel generated costly power being used by industrial units in the city as also being supplied by builders and colonisers to residents of Gurgaon at a very high price of anywhere between Rs 14-20 a unit as against the average tariff of Rs 3-4 a unit for electricity supplied through the grid in the country.
While a blackout is a complete power failure that affects electricity users across cities and states as the entire area goes black; a brownout is a controlled power reduction that can be used by a utility to reduce line voltage to deliver more power and meet increased demand and also avert grid failures.
