Making India Energy-Efficient: Smart SIM-enabled pumps will cut down India’s mounting agricultural subsidy bill by Rs 20,000 crore annually from 2019 with the distribution of 20 million pumps across the nation. Also on the anvil is another roll-out plan to provide Energy-Efficient 5-Star labelled Ceiling Fans for Homes and Businesses. These two path-breaking initiatives will be Launched by Goyal on April 7th starting with Andhra Pradesh in the presence of state Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The minister emphasised that his government will focus on increasing electricity demand, developing hydro power and intrastate transmission. He also added that there is a need to build enough redundancy in the system to address breakdowns. Goyal stressed that public-private partnerships are central to the power sector. He expressed confidence that India would meet the target of 20,000 MW of solar power by 2017 and the 100 gigawatts target of renewable energy by 2022.

Another 337 villages have been electrified across the country during last week (from 14th to 20th March 2016) under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY).Out of these electrified villages, 67 in Odisha, 49 in Jharkhand , 66 villages in Uttar Pradesh, 30 in Arunachal Pradesh , 41 in Bihar, 49 in Assam, 12 in Chhattisgarh, 9 in Madhya Pradesh and 11 in Rajasthan 1 each in Himachal Pradesh, Manipur & J &K
