The state government on Monday told the Gujarat high court that the Centre is the appropriate authority to carry out the land acquisition process for the bullet train project, but it can work in tandem with the state government.
The state government, however, submitted that the central government can work in consultation with the state government for such land acquisition and the state government is hence the appropriate government to issue notifications for land acquisition.
In response to five petitions filed by farmers questioning the state government’s powers to issue a notification for land acquisition for the National High-Speed Railway Corporation, a multi-state project, the high court sought an explanation from the state government on this aspect, said the petitioner’s advocate, Anand Yagnik.
