Delhi Metro goes green! The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is eyeing to be the world’s first 100 per cent green energy rail network. Recently, DMRC got 27 MW power from the Madhya Pradesh-based Rewa Solar Power Project.
Interestingly, this is the first time when the DMRC received power from an “offsite source”. A senior DMRC official was quoted in a PTI report saying that till now, the solar power generated by roof-top solar plants installed in DMRC premises was used for auxiliary requirements such as air conditioning and lighting of metro stations, depots.
But, now solar power coming from Rewa Solar Power Project would also be used to run the metro trains. Currently, DMRC uses solar power for almost 60 per cent of its electricity needs. Read More
