Even before National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) begins with FASTag toll collection system on national highways from December 1, Mumbai-Pune Expressway will have started it already. Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) MD Radhyesham Mopalwar said the Expressway will partly start FASTag operations from November 28. A similar arrangement will start for Bandra-Worli sea link and five Mumbai entry-point toll posts on the fringes of the city (Vashi, Airoli, Mulund, LBS, Dahisar) from December-end.
Dr Bharat Bastewad, general manager for toll collection, MSRDC, said testing of FASTag on the e-way (mainly Talegaon and Khalapur toll posts) had achieved excellent results. “We hope to start actual operations in hybrid mode from November 28-29,” he said, pointing out that of the 10 lanes at the Khalapur and Talegaon toll plazas, six will have the hybrid (FASTag/ETC/card/cash) arrangement, while the remaining four will have the existing collection system.
