With a number of festivals like Dussehra, Diwali and Chhat lined up in the coming days, the Centre has decided to ply 4000 special trains this year for passengers wishing to visit their near and dear ones. This year the government is planning to ply more trains as compared to last year.
“This year 4,000 special trains will ply on Dussehra, Diwali and Chhath as opposed to 3,800 trains last year, “Manoj Sinha, MoS Railways was quoted as saying by ANI today.
The Centre has also decided to stop the sale of platform tickets in case the passengers rush increase at Railway stations. “If the rush of passengers increases, the sale of platform tickets will be stopped and use of foot overbridges will be minimised,” the minister was quoted as saying further by the agency.
Recently, in an effort to put an end to tiresome quarrel due to oversleeping passengers, the Railways has decided to reduce official sleeping hours. As per the circular issued by the railway board, the passengers can sleep only between 10 pm and 6 am to help other passengers sit on the seats for the rest of the time. The permissible time to sleep earlier was between 9 pm and 6 am, PTI reported.
“Sleeping accommodation between 2200 hours and 0600 hours and sitting accommodation for the rest of the period is provided for the passengers in the reserved coaches having sleeping accommodation,” said the circular, dated August 31, as per the agency. “Passengers are, however, requested to cooperate with the sick, persons with disability, and pregnant ladies in case they want to sleep beyond permissible limits,” it added.
“We had received feedback from officials regarding issues between passengers over sleeping arrangements. We already have a rule in place. However, we wanted to clarify it and ensure it is followed,” ministry spokesperson Anil Saxena, was quoted as saying by PTI. Read more
