In an exclusive interview with Ankush Kumar, Bhaskar Mandal, Executive Vice President and Head, Process Industries & Drives, Siemens India discusses the company’s key focus areas for improving industrial efficiency.
What are the different focus areas of Siemens’ business in India currently?
As one of the world’s biggest producers of energy-efficient, resource-saving technologies, we are a pioneer in infrastructure and energy solutions, as well as automation and software for industry. There are three aspects of Siemens business — electrification, automation and digitalisation. Electrification starts with the best way of using the electrical power. How power is received, conceived and the motor is run. Then comes automation where we simplify and automate the plant processes. Here our focus is to ensure productivity and efficiency. Digitalisation is about analysing data to get a meaningful outcome for customers.
In what way is digitalization and automation helping businesses lower their energy consumption?
Siemens has the engineering, domain and digital know-how to generate performance improvements across the entire value chain, from design to production and operations to maintenance. Industrial plants in sectors like cement and steel, which are heavy users of electricity, want to minimize their input consumption. Plants in cement and mining industries, chemical factories and pharmaceutical units run continuously and are based on certain processes. We make a running process industry more efficient – by using techniques like predictive maintenance and failure prediction.
