To give a major fillip to freight movement and reduce travelling time between major cities in Tamil Nadu, the Centre is planning four major road projects in delta and southern districts.
These are among the slew of highway expansion projects being planned in the state under the Bharatmala Pariyojana and the National Highway Development Programme of the Central government. They are likely to be rolled out in the next few months.
While feeder corridors will connect Melur and Karaikudi via Pillayarpatti, an economic corridor is being proposed from Rajapalayam to Srivilliputhur as part of the Thirumangalam-Shenkottah (151km) highway expansion.
The other road projects on the anvil are expansion of residual stretches (44km) linking Madurai and Bodi and an 85km-road connecting Tirupathur in Sivaganga district with Thanjavur. Read More
