Despite opposition from locals, the government has decided to allow a private company to operate and maintain the newly built Yaramaras Thermal Power Station (YTPS) in Raichur district.
The government issued a letter of award (LoA) to Hyderabad-based Power Mech Projects Limited on December 5 and the firm is likely to take over operations of the plant, which has two units with 800W capacity each.
As per the LoA, the firm will operate and maintain the plant for 30 months on a pilot basis; the government will provide Rs 248 crore for the purpose. “If the government is satisfied with the company’s performance, the contract could be extended,” said an official in the Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL).
The plant set up in Raichur district’s Chikkasuguru village was inaugurated by former chief minister Siddaramaiah at the fag-end of his tenure, and is yet to start power generation. Read More
