The green is edging out the black in India, courtesy the many wind turbines and solar panels dotting the country.
India is the biggest greenhouse gas emitter, ranking after the US and China, with renewable energy currently accounting for only about 16 per cent of the total installed capacity of 315,426MW.
The country just upped the scale by adding a record 5,400 megawatts (MW) of wind power in 2016-17, exceeding its own target of 4,000MW.
“This year’s achievement surpassed the previous higher capacity addition of 3,423MW,” the Statesman reported, quoting a PTI report on a statement from India’s ministry of new and renewable energy sources.
Of the about 50,018MW of installed renewable power in India, more than 55 per cent is wind power. Read More…
