Indian Railways will be manufacturing Metro train coaches in its Rae Bareli facility for the first time, Economic Times has reported. This will also be the first time that the Indian Railways will be using robots for manufacturing the coaches.
Currently, Indian metro trains use coaches manufactured by Bombardier, as per the report, and the ‘Make In India’ coaches will be at par with those manufactured by Bombardier.
These ‘Make In India’ metro coaches will be 40 per cent cheaper and will have facilities like CCTV cameras, WiFi and mobile charging units according to an official who spoke to Economic Times. It will also have safety features that include signalling, door control and train management systems. Read more
