A major Indian Railways train accident was averted in Maharashtra due to the alertness of a gateman Sudeshwar Prasad Gupta on July 14. Because of his quick thinking, lives were saved and damage to the train was avoided, leading him to be dubbed a hero.
The problem had the potential to lead to a loss of men, material and equipment. In a statement released by the Central Railway on Monday reads that Sudeshwar Gupta, while working at Gate No. 136 (Engineering Gate) between Maheji and Pardhade at km 383/26 on Pachora – Jalgaon section of Bhusaval Division observed hot axle in one wagon of goods train on July 14.
He immediately brought out a red flag and alerted the Guard of the train who immediately stopped the train. Because of his alertness, the timely detection of a hot axle by a gateman averted a possible major accident. Read More
