India’s First Indigenous Self-Propelled Train To Hit The Tracks In 2018

The first indigenous self-propelled train set in India will take to the tracks next year! A senior railway board member said that the train set will be ready and be running in December 2018.

The 16-coach train set is based on the design of metros but will be built on a higher scale. It will run at a speed of 160km/hr and will be able to cover long distances as well. Similar to a Delhi metro rake, the coaches of this train will be individually powered by a propulsion system and won’t need a locomotive.

Ravindra Gupta, a member of the Railway Board, told Asian Age, “This will be India’s first indigenous train set and will be rolled out on the tracks by December 2018.” He said that initially, the train will be a chair car but sleeper coaches will be introduced later. Read More…
