Indian Railways offers a concession on train tickets to certain categories of passengers including students, senior citizens, patients, handicapped, widows of defence personnel, sportsmen, unemployed youths, etc. The concessional fare is calculated on the basis of fares of trains.
As per IRCTC, the concession is only applicable on basic fares, no concession is provided on reservation charges, superfast charges, etc, while, the concession is admissible on catering charges of Rajdhani, Shatabdi/Jan Shatabdi trains.
However, Tatkal scheme which allows passengers to book train tickets at a very short notice, doesn’t allow any concession on the booked tickets. Read More
