The government has approved the extension of Phase 1B of the Kochi metro from Ernakulam SN Junction to the Thripunithura railway station. The Rs 350 crore project was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday this week. The Cabinet also approved a proposal to sign an agreement with the union government and railways for construction of 27 road overbridges. It also gave a green signal for a Rs 15.86 crore for a bypass and development of Cherpulassery town.
It may be noted that due to the floods that occurred last year in Kerala, the Tripunithura Municipality authorities requested the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) to revise the metro route to Tripunithura through the proposed road and bus depot planned in the empty space beside the Tripunithura railway station.
