The peak power demand in the state set another record this year on Monday when the demand crossed 13500 MW. This is the highest power demand in the state’s history.
Power demand, which was nearly stagnant for more than a decade, has seen a steady rise in the past couple of years. Last year the highest demand that was met by the distribution companies was 12240 MW, which was recorded on December 28, 2017.
While the power demand in urban areas goes down in this season as compared to summer, there is an exponential increase in rural power demand due to the irrigation season during this time, said sources. In a city like Bhopal where power demand is normally close to 350 MW in summer, it comes down to 250-270MW in winter, added sources.
But there is a growth of overall power demand in state, giving officials a tough time to ensure that the requirement is met. Read More
