Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the country’s largest fuel retailer, today issued a clarification saying no leakage of Aadhaar data occurred through its portal.
The clarification came in response to a news report based on a French researcher’s claim that he had found a major security lapse that allegedly exposed millions of Aadhar numbers of dealers and distributors associated with IOC’s LPG brand Indane.
“Indian Oil in its software captures only the Aadhaar number which is required for LPG subsidy transfer. No other Aadhaar related details are captured by Indian Oil. Therefore, leakage of Aadhaar data is not possible through us,” the company said in a detailed response posted on its twitter handle. Read more
