The East-West metro in Kolkata is all set for its penultimate inspection by Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) after which it can operationalise its services along the six km stretch.
A RSDO team from Lucknow has been sent to Kolkata to inspect the Metro rakes, tracks, electrification and other facilities between Sector V and Salt Lake Stadium on Thursday. RSDO is a wing under the Ministry of Railways that inspects the technical aspects of new railway projects.
Post the RSDO testing, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) will seek permission from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) to carry out their own safety tests. Once KMRC gets an approval from CMRS, the E-W metro can begin its commercial operations. Read more
