The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has served a prosecution notice to state power body MSEDCL superintending engineer (Vashicircle) for non-compliance of its direction to disconnect power supply to a pharma firm in Taloja MIDC for causing pollution.
The pharma firm along with 17 others were to be shut down for non-compliance with pollution control norms. The pollution body is reported to have asked MSEDCL to disconnect power supply but the electricity body’s officials said it has not received the letter.
MPCB regional officer Dr A N Harshvardhan in his prosecution notice dated August 30, 2018, (TOI has a copy of the notice) has said that the pharmaceutical company has been causing environmental pollution and the MSEDCL superintending engineer must disconnect the power supply (vide MPCB letter dated May 8, 2018) to the said unit.
In spite of this direction and further follow up, the MSEDCL superintending engineer has not disconnected the power supply. Read More
