Twelve days after Cyclone Fani battered Puri district, electricity was partly restored at a few places in the district headquartered town, including the Jagannath Temple, on Wednesday evening.
The 12th century shrine, which was illuminated with the help of diesel generators since May 3, when Fani made landfall, was supplied with electricity minutes before chief minister Naveen Patnaik reached Puri to take stock of restoration work.
“I am deeply saddened by the damage caused to Puri. I assure the people that we will turn Puri into a world class heritage city,” Naveen said after reviewing the distribution of relief material and restoration of damaged infrastructure in the district.
Though power was restored in some portions of Puri town, mostly the Grand Road facing the temple, uncertainty looms over timely completion of restoration work in other parts of the town and the district. Read More
