With power demand expected to touch 3,000 MW this summer in Greater Hyderabad, Telanganapower utilities are gearing up to meet the power requirement in the city.
Telangana Transco is proposing a Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) of 400 Kilo Volts (kV) at Raidurg at a cost of 1,362 crore, which is first major substation being taken up in the heart of the city. The 400 kV substation will ensure uninterrupted and high voltage power supply. TS Transco officials said it will also reduce transmission losses.
According to officials, power demand is currently about 2,950 MW in Greater Hyderabad, which was 2,500 MW a couple of years ago. “Generally, power demand rises by 13% over the previous year’s demand, but in Hi-Tec City and IT corridor areas, the power requirement increased by 25% over the previous year.
Despite the alarming rise, the discom is meeting the demand of all the sectors,” Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company (TSSPDCL) director (operation) G Srinivas Reddy told TOI. Read More
