The movement of parcels through rail is expected to increase as a result of the nationwide lorry strike called by the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) which entered the second day on Saturday. The truck operators were demanding the removal of all toll plazas on the national highways across the country and pressing other charter of demands.
According to an official of the Salem division of the Southern Railway, parcel booking offices in Coimbatore junction, Pollachi, Mettupalayam, Ooty, Tirupur, Erode, Uthukuli, Salem and Karur are fully geared to handle the surge in traffic.
