Railways has claimed to have achieved highest ever track renewal in a month citing it as the chief reason for a dip in train derailments after the sudden spurt in accidents last year which led to a change of minister at the helm.
Railways clocked track renewals of 576 km in January this year. In other words, it managed to replace more than 19 km of old tracks every day. A railways document shows that the previous highest was 523 km in March 2005.
Railways witnessed 41 derailments in the period between April 1, 2017 and January 15, 2018, down from 69 between April 1, 2016 and January 15, 2017. Read More…
