The Baiyappanahalli railway terminal will soon be developed with amenities and a design that will match any swanky airport. The Railways will monetise a part of its land at Baiyappanahalli to raise the Rs 250 crore for this project.
Once ready “in the next 3 to 4 years,” it will be the third-busiest railway station in the city after the KSR Railway Station in Majestic and Yeshwantapur railway station.
The Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC), a special purpose vehicle tasked with developing stations across the country, has come up with the plan. The “airport-like station,” senior officials of IRSDC said, will come up at the coaching terminal near Baiyappanahalli station where the Railways owns 132 acres of land.
