Indian Railways to promote heritage preservation! In a bid to promote heritage preservation in Indian Railways, the Railway Ministry has decided to take certain reformative measures. Recently, a day-long event of heritage officers of Zonal Railways and Production Units to give complete attention to century old rich heritage of Indian Railways, was organized by the Railway Ministry. After renewing the Fairy Queen Steam Locomotive and setting up the Rewari Steam Centre, the Railway board is now preparing to launch a special drive. The main purpose of the special drive would be to identify various heritage items or artefacts that are currently lying unnoticed or overlooked at different locations.
In order to maintain a record of the timelines of Indian Railways history, the Board aspires to ensure proper preservation and display of such heritage items. The Board also plans to open a logbook of all major events related to Indian Railways, both at Zonal Railways as well as at National Rail Museum. The initiatives regarding preservation of heritage in Indian Railways will include facilitating revival of Steam Locomotives and run regular time-tabled trains on Steam Traction.
