Western Railway has tied up with the prisons department to provide linencovers made of newspapers. The project, a first of its kind for Indian Railways, has been launched on a trial basis on Bandra-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express, also known as Third Rajdhani.
On Monday, WR chief public relations officer Ravinder Bhakar said, “These bags are being made by prisoners of Nasik and Yerwada central jails with scrapped newspapers. These are sturdier than machine-made bags. The idea is reformist as it gives gainful employment to prisoners.”
