Officials at Integral Coach Factory (ICF), the Indian Railways premier coach manufacturing unit in Chennai, are in a quandary as doors, windows, brakes and other train parts worth at least Rs 35-40 crore for making Train-18 rakes are lying unused on the factory premises.
This issue has cropped up because the Railway Board ordered the cancellation of all Train-18 tenders in a meeting in the first week of July and called for fresh tenders.
Train-18 is India’s first indigenously manufactured train-set which is being operated as the Vande Bharat Express between New Delhi and Varanasi. The first rake was turned out for Rs 97 crore by ICF. Two rakes have been manufactured by ICF so far. Read More
