The historic floods that devastated the state in every sense, had taken its toll on the fuel market too. Officials of oil retailers said that petrol and diesel sales in the state were badly affected by the cumulative impact of floods across various sectors.
According to figures provided by oil marketing companies (OMCs), though sales of petrol and diesel in the country in the current financial year witnessed 8% and 4% increase respectively (till October 31) compared to last fiscal, Kerala witnessed a 3% drop in diesel sale and the petrol sale increased only by 4% which is exactly half the national average. In the previous financial year, petrol sale reported around 8% increase, whereas diesel faced a drop of around 1%.
Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) reported a monthly average sale of 75,000KL petrol and 1,05,000KL diesel in Kerala. For BPCL, the monthly sales were around 45,000KL petrol and 60,000KL diesel. Read More
