Rail users alleged that the railway authorities are planning to terminate Mayiladuthurai-Trichy express by pushing the train under the category of poor patronage, by terminating it often in the name of maintenance work along the Trichy-Thanjavur section.
Mayiladuthurai falls in the mainline section between Trichy and Villupuram. Three major grade A stations namely Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam and Thanjavur fall under this passenger predominant section. With limited operation of trains, about 40,000 passengers use this section daily for their travel needs, rail users said.
Railway authorities attributed maintenance work for the termination of this train for a brief period. But usually, the termination prolong for days without any proper reason. The authorities were also not ready to divulge anything about the delay.
