Power minister RK Singh made scathing remarks on Friday against states dishonouring power contracts, giving free power and imposing high tariffs on industry, while asking them to put state welfare before elections and cautioning them not to think people are fools to believe them.
“If you take right steps, people understand. Don’t think people are fools. If you think you give them free things and they will vote for you, you have contempt for your own people. Don’t think you can buy them by giving free things. They have enough judgment. They know whether you are working for the long-term benefit of the country or not,” Singh said in Gujarat at a congregation of state power ministers.
