Rooftop solar scheme: Govt approves spending Rs 11,814 crore under second phase

A central financial support of Rs 11,814 crore for second phase of the rooftop solar scheme has been approved by the government, according to a Ministry of New and Renewable Energy order issued last week. This amount would be spent over a period of four years, it added.

The scheme, which aims at achieving total rooftop solar power generation capacity of 40,000 megawatt (MW) by 2022, has two components. The first component involves setting up 4,000 MW grid-connected rooftop solar plants in the residential sector with central financial assistance.
