With the model code of conduct in place, the BBMP is not able to start work on Rs 1,862 crore worth infrastructure projects, including whitetopping and rejuvenation of storm water drains and lakes. In addition, 5,257 ongoing works at a cost of Rs 7,036 crore have slowed down in the wake of polls.
Now, chief secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar has issued an order to speed up ongoing infrastructure projects and start new ones soon after April 23, when electioneering ends in Karnataka.
The order comes after the CS got related confirmation from the Election Commission of India (ECI). A copy of the order is available with TOI. Though the LS polls in Karnataka end on April 23, the code remains in place till the seven-phase elections end across the country. Read more
