The Railway Protection Force has tightened security at the Madurai railway junction in view of Independence Day. Since August 10, RPF team along with the Government Railway Police have been screening all major trains while parcel service has been suspended till August 16 for safety reasons.
On Sunday, a 25 member team of RPF and GRP conducted a security check on the Guruvayur Express train as it arrived in Madurai Junction around 11.30am. A sniffer dog was pressed into service to screen the baggage. RPF Inspector, R Sivakumar said that all parcel services except perishable goods have been suspended for security reasons.
“We are carrying out intensive checks of all the trains passing through the junction and security has been tightened at all railway stations. Passenger luggage is screened at the entrances of the stations too,” he said. The security arrangement will remain in place till August 16, he added. Read More…
