Union Coal Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday urged state-run Coal India Ltd to pledge self-sufficiency in production to eliminate import of the dry fuel, and look at reviving the 1-billion tonne output aim.
The government had earlier set a target of 1 billion tonne of coal production by fiscal 2019-20 for the mining major. Coal India has announced a production aim of 652 million tonne in 2018-19.
“Our next step would be to revive the one billion tonne production aim of CIL as decided earlier,” Goyal said. Read more
