The Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission on Tuesday issued a notice to Chief Engineer(CE) Power Development Department (PDD) for resorting to unscheduled power cuts in metered and non-metered areas besides irregular power supply.
The notice was issued after a complaint was filed in the SHRC alleging that on the onset of winter, the PDD has started unscheduled and frequent power cuts in metered and non metered areas in the Kashmir valley.
The complaint further added that due to the unscheduled power cuts people, particularly students, are facing immense hardships in cold days and nights. The SHRC has sought a report from the Chief Engineer within a week’s time to explain why power cuts are effected even without a notice.
Meanwhile, complaints are being received from different parts of the Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, about frequent power cuts for hours without any notice. Read More
