The 135-km Western Peripheral Expressway, also known as Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway, is expected to be operational by March 2018.
The Super Expressway passes through Gurugram, Palwal, Mewat and Sonepat districts. Around 83 km of the road is yet to be completed. Meanwhile, the 53-km stretch between Manesar and Palwal is already operational with two toll plazas in place.
Once the Super Expressway is opened to the public, the 135-km stretch will connect National Highway 1 at Kundli in Sonepat district with Palwal district on NH-2. The expressway will also reduce the commuting time from Delhi to the towns of Kundli, Manesar and Palwal considerably.
It will provide faster access to the international and domestic airport to people in that region. The expressway will also be a high-speed link to northern Haryana with its southern districts like Sonepat, Jhajjar, Gurugram and Faridabad.
According to the administration officials, the project was started in 2007 with a completion time of three years but got delayed for seven years due to State politics and financial disputes.
