Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has started a campaign against coal transport vehicles spilling mounds of coal ash on the stretch from Magdalla to ONGC bridge on Surat-Dumas Road. Coal transporters have stopped transportation of coal from Friday after the civic body seized five trucks for spilling huge amount of coal ash on the road.
Official sources said health and hospital department officials had carried out inspection on the entire stretch. Five trucks spilling coal were detained by the department. The movement of transport trucks was stopped by coal dealers following this action.
Dr Ashish Naik, deputy commissioner of health and hospital, told TOI, “We had received many complaints from residents of Vesu and Magdalla regarding coal ash nuisance on the entire stretch. Read More
