The power ministry today informed projects worth Rs 69,475 crore have been sanctioned so far under two flagship schemes aimed at rural and urban electrification in the country and the government’s programme is on track to implement universal household electrification in India by March 2019.

Union Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines, Piyush Goyal said on Thursday that the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have been made competitive with the announcement in the Budget 2017 over reduction of Corporate Tax to 25% up to turnover of Rs. 50 crores.
In order to achieve the renewable energy target of 175 GW by the year 2022, the major programmes/ schemes on implementation of Solar Park, Solar Defence Scheme, Solar scheme for CPUs Solar PV power plants on Canal Bank and Canal Tops, Solar Pump, Solar Rooftop etc have been launched during the last two years.
Moving in this direction, the Power Ministry is likely to award the works to have IT-driven power distribution in as many as 2,636 towns across the country by the end of December this year. The savings on this account, once the work is completed in these towns, could be in the range of Rs 10,000 crore annually.
IT enabled power distribution systems helps discoms reducing aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses. This aids them to monitor the feeders online. Besides IT driven power distribution system provides consumers a host of services like online bill payment, applying for new connection and knowing status of power supply situation in these towns in real time basis.
