The Kochi Metro, which has effected a tectonic shift in the city’s public transport system, on Monday completed two years of successful operations. On June 17, 2017, the Metro service from Aluva was commissioned.
The second phase powering of Kochi Metro with solar power will be inaugurated on Monday with the installation of panels at Muttom yard. This will double Metro’s solar power usage to 40%. The panels will be installed at four hectares of the marshy land at Muttom.
The Kochi Metro, which was commissioned in June 2017, has achieved another milestone as the total number of passengers travelled in Metro since its inception has crossed two crore mark.

Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL), which has seen its non-ticketing revenue touching nearly Rs 50 crore since the launch of its commercial operation a year ago, is planning to launch more such projects in order to generate more revenue, The New Indian Express has reported.
