Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu including the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK ) on Monday condemned the permission granted to Vedanta and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) by the Ministry of Environment and Forests to carry out an environmental impact assessment(EIA) for exploring hydrocarbons in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu and in Puducherry.
Reactions from the Opposition exploded after Vedanta group secured the approval from the environment ministry to take out EIA for oil and gas exploration in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Reacting to the latest development, DMK president MK Stalin said the move violated the Model Code of Conduct. He also went on to accuse the Centre of supporting the decision citing its “closeness” with the Vedanta group. Read More
