Two state discoms fare poorly in Centre’s rating

Following annual ratings conducted by the Union Ministry of Power (MoP), two of the three power distribution companies in the state — Poorv Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company and Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company — have emerged among the ‘worst performing’ in a list of 41 discoms across 22 states.

In the seventh such rating conducted by the Union ministry, Poorv Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company ranked 37th and Madhya Pradesh Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company ranked 34th.

While Poorv Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company supplies electricity to Mahakaushal and Vindhya regions, Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company supplies power to Bhopal and Gwalior regions. The MoP graded both the discoms ‘C++’ for ‘Low Operational and Financial Performance Capability’.

Their performance was worse than 33 others, including the state’s third discom — Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Limited— which is 14th on the list. Read More
