The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved a proposal for introduction of Dam Safety Bill, 2018 to ensure uniform dam safety procedures across the country.
The bill will help states and union territories adopt uniform procedures to ensure safety of dams and safeguard benefits of human life, livestock and property, the government said in a statement. “The draft Bill has been finalised after wide consultation with leading Indian experts and international experts,” the statement added.
The Bill provides for proper surveillance, inspection, operation and maintenance of all specified dams in the country to ensure their safe functioning. It also provides for constitution of a National Committee on Dam Safety which will develop dam safety policies and regulations. Read More
