As temperatures soar, the power consumption in the country is going through the roof. But Uttar Pradesh has a plan of action in place to put a check on the use of electricity and limit power theft in the state. Yogi Adityanath’s government is set to adopt the Gujarat Model in Uttar Pradesh.
Illegal power usage in UP has been reflecting badly on the state’s earnings resulting in aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses of around 40 percent, including power theft and pilferages, reports Business Standard.
A run down the memory lane will remind us of the dire power shortage situation across many rural parts of the country highlighted by the Shahrukh Khan-starrer Swades . Reel life of many of the people in the movie mirrors the real life of those living in Uttar Pradesh. And, the Central Electricity data proves that 71 percent of UP’s rural households and 19 percent in urban areas are deprived of electricity connection.
