The South Eastern Railway (SER) has set up an air-conditioned lounge at the Digha train station. It will be inaugurated by Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu soon. The lounge has a TV set and will be able to accommodate 40-45 people at a time. Charges have been fixed at Rs 18 per hour, irrespective of the class of travel.
Over the last few years, with CM Mamata Banerjee laying stress on the improvement of facilities at Digha, the volume of tourists – particularly from the middle and upper middle-classes – has gone up significantly.
