P Venkatesh, a 45-year-old patient suffering from oral cancer, was the first to have been picked up from the MNJ cancer centre by a cab and dropped at the Secunderabad Railway Station as part of an NGO’s latest pilot ‘Free cab services for BPL patients initiative’.
Venkatesh from Warangal underwent treatment for the past few months. As part of the initiative, rolled out by the Helping Hands Foundation, patients are dropped at CM camp office, where there is an Aarogyasri referral centre as also at bus stops and railway stations so that they can go home without hassles. The services, which have been rolled out in collaboration with Ola and Uber will be available to all BPL in-patients at the hospital.
