Unions of Coal India and Singareni Collieries have deferred their three-day strike by three months. The strike was to be observed from Monday on concerns that the government would merge coal workers’ provident fund with the Employees Provident Fund, which they feared would reduce retirement benefits.
However the government had clarified earlier that there was no such proposal. Unions also demanded early salary negotiations and proper implementations of decisions taken in the previous round of negotiations. Read more
